What is PTFE Tape?

PTFE is known as Polytetrafluoroethylene, referred to as Teflon, PTFE, F4, etc. Polytetrafluoroethylene is generally called "non-stick coating" or "easy to clean wok material"; it is a synthetic polymer material that uses fluorine to replace all hydrogen atoms in polyethylene. This material is resistant to acids and bases, and to various organic solvents, and is insoluble in almost all solvents. Teflon is also resistant to high temperatures and has a very low coefficient of friction, making it ideal for lubrication as well as for coating the inside of woks and pipes.

What is anti-static PTFE?

We use high-quality suspended fine powder Teflon resin, add high temperature resistant and wear-resistant modified filler, and mix a certain proportion of anti-static material after making anti-static PTFE. After mixing and processing, we get antistatic, wear-resistant, and pressure-resistant Black antistatic PTFE.

What are the properties of PTFE?

Various processes in Teflon spraying:

  • Dispersion coating: The processing method of dispersion coating is a wet process that makes the coating material uniformly distributed in the solvent to form a dispersion (solid material mixed in liquid). This mixture is atomized by high-pressure air and sprayed on the surface of the workpiece.
  • Processing steps: the processing steps of dispersion coating are divided into the following steps: preparation of the workpiece, (wet) dispersion coating spraying, drying, and sintering.
  • Preparation of the workpiece: To obtain sufficient surface adhesion on the surface of the workpiece, *** remove all the grease on the surface to be coated. We use dissolved grease and heat it to about 400 degrees to make it volatilize. In the next step, the workpiece is mechanically cleaned and roughened using sandblasting. The bonding ability of the coating to the surface of the workpiece can be improved by applying a bonding aid (primer). (Spraying of dispersion coatings (wet): The coating material must be uniform. The thickness of the coating depends on the coating system used; the thickness of the coating may vary from a few microns to 200 microns (0.2 mm).
  • Drying: the wet coating is heated in an oven at a controlled temperature of fewer than 100 degrees until most of the solvent has evaporated.
  • sintering: the sintering step is to heat the workpiece to a higher temperature until an irreversible reaction occurs: the coating material melts and forms a mesh structure with the bonding agent.
  • Powder coating: the method of powder coating processing is dry processing, where the coating material used is * its fine solid particle form. The use of this coating method avoids the use of solvents, and the subsequent coating adhesion occurs when the dispersion phenomenon.
  • Processing: A proper method is used to make the micronized coating particles adhere to the workpiece. Subsequently, the coated micronized powder is melted in an oven.

After the Teflon coating process, it has the following properties:

  1. Non-adhesive: Almost all substances do not adhere to the PTFE-coated film. The very thin film also shows very good non-adhesive properties.
  2. Heat resistance: Teflon-coated film has excellent heat and low-temperature resistance. Short-term high-temperature resistance to 300 ℃, generally between 240 ℃ ~ 260 ℃ can be used continuously, with significant thermal stability, it can work at the freezing temperature without embrittlement, and in the high temperature does not melt.
  3. Sliding: Teflon-coated film has a low coefficient of friction. The coefficient of friction changes when the load slides, but the value is only between 0.05-0.15.
  4. Resistance to moisture: Teflon coated surface is not stained with water and oil, and it is not easy to stain the solution during the production operation, if a small amount of dirt is stuck, it can be removed by simple wiping. Short downtime, save working hours and can improve efficiency.
  5. Wear resistance: Under high load, it has excellent wear resistance. Under a certain load, it has the double advantages of abrasion resistance and non-adhesion.
  6. Corrosion resistance: Teflon is almost immune to pharmaceuticals, and can withstand all strong acids (including aqua regia), strong oxidizers, reducing agents, and various organic solvents except molten alkali metals, fluorinated media, and sodium hydroxide above 300°C. It can protect parts from any kind of chemical corrosion.

Chemical properties of PTFE

  • Insulation: not affected by the environment and frequency, volume resistance up to 1018 ohm-cm, small dielectric loss, high breakdown voltage.
  • High and low-temperature resistance: the influence of temperature does not change much, the temperature range is wide, can use temperature -190 ~ 260 ℃.
  • Self-lubricating: With the smallest coefficient of friction among plastics, it is an ideal oil-free lubricating material.
  • Surface non-stick: known solid materials can not adhere to the surface, which is the surface energy of the smallest solid materials.
  • Atmospheric aging resistance, irradiation resistance, and low permeability: long-term exposure to the atmosphere, the surface and properties remain unchanged.
  • Non-combustibility: The limiting oxygen index is below 90.
  • PTFE is widely used in industries that resist high temperatures and require high viscosity. One of the strongest superacids - fluoroantimony acid can also be used for preservation.

Application areas of PTFE

  1. PTFE can be molded by pushing or extrusion; used in High-temperature electric wire, also can be made into a film first and then slit into axial PTFE wrapping tape, used in the production of high-frequency cable, directly made into water dispersion, then can be used for coating, impregnation or made into fiber.
  2. PTFE is widely used in atomic energy, national defense, aerospace, electronics, electrical, chemical, machinery, instruments, meters, construction, textile, metal surface treatment, pharmaceutical, medical, food, metallurgical smelting, and other industries as high and low temperature resistant, corrosion resistant materials, insulation materials, anti-adhesive coating, etc., making it an irreplaceable product.
  3. Polytetrafluoroethylene has outstanding excellent overall performance, high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, non-stick, self-lubricating, excellent dielectric properties, and a very low coefficient of friction. Used as engineering plastics, can be made into PTFE tubes, rods, strips, plates, films, etc. Generally used in high-performance requirements of corrosion-resistant pipes, containers, pumps, and valves, as well as the production of radar, high-frequency communication equipment, radio equipment, radome, etc. Adding any filler that can withstand the sintering temperature of Teflon in Teflon, its mechanical properties can greatly improved. At the same time, maintain the other excellent properties of PTFE. Filled varieties include glass fiber, metal, metalized oxide, graphite, molybdenum disulfide, carbon fiber, polyimide, EKONOL, etc. The wear resistance and ultimate PV value can be increased by 1000 times.
